Letting Go
Karin's new CD, "Letting Go" is now available for sale. The CD was released at the New Orleans Restaurant in Pioneer Square on January 27, 2008.
"Letting Go" is a compilation of Karin's latest work. There are five original tunes: "Puss in Boots", "Letting Go", "Just Born Lucky", "Over My Head" and "Run Run". Also included are Karin's arrangements of John Lewis' "Afternoon in Paris", the Swedish folk tune "Dear Old Stockholm" and Monk's "Rhythm-a-ning". Karin arranged a tune little known out of classical music circles, Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Vocalize", for jazz trio. There are also a terrific Kenny Dorham tune, "Whistle Stop" and one from Art Blakey's Album of the Year, "The Soulful Mr. Timmons".
The basic musical unit is the Karin Kajita Jazz Quintet, which was formed in 2000. The musicians are Tony Grasso on trumpet, Brian Kent on tenor sax, Karin on piano, Clipper Anderson on bass and Ray Davis on drums. Karin heard an irresistible third line in six of her arrangements, and so included trombonist Greg Schroeder in the mix. Two of her tunes developed lyrics, so Karin asked Greta Matassa to sing "Over My Head" and Andy Shaw to sing "Just Born Lucky".
The price is $!6.60, which includes tax and shipping. Please send check and mailing address to Karin at 1221 NE 181st PL, Shoreline WA 98155. Or you may pick up a copy for $15 at one of Karin's gigs. Please check her performance schedule.
